Trip to Oxford

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

What a fabulous day we had on Sunday. Following a trip to Sussex we travelled home via Oxford and spent a few happy hours in Blackwell's. It was, quite simply, heavenly!

As we haven't had as many trips south this year as previous years, there haven't been as many visits to Oxford and I hadn't realised how much I missed both mooching around the city and spending time in Blackwell's Bookshop.

Blackwell's is full of wonderful books! There are so many books which I wouldn't find if I didn't wander around the shop. As there wasn't a lot of time I restricted my browsing to Literature, History, Poetry and the new 2nd Hand Department. As somebody once said "so many books, so little time"!! My basket was so full when Chris and I met for coffee and cakes in the cafe that it was rather difficult to carry!

My haul included a couple of books about 1930's poetry especially Auden and Kathleen Raine; a few, new, books about the Romantics; a fabulous book about spelling reform; a biography of Rebecca West and several volumes from the 2nd Hand Department about Malory, King Arthur and the North of England. All in all a fabulous haul and a couple of hours well spent!
