Orrest Head

1922 OS map
The days are getting longer but we are still looking out for walks that provide a good 'reward' fairly quickly. Orrest Head is very accessible yet gives wonderful panoramic views of the entire length of Lake Windermere. The weather was perfect so we set off up the track opposite Windermere Station.
Part way up and we got a glimpse of Lake Windermere through the trees
Towards Belle Isle, Windermere's largest island
It's still winter with snow on the tops looking towards the fells to the west...
... and towards High Street

The reward: a fantastic view up Lake Windermere on a bright day
with the Langdales and Coniston Old Man behind

And looking the other way, into the low Sun

A final view to the east before we descend
With thanks to Steely Dan for the photo idea
