Leighton Moss

The Arnside and Silverdale AONB is only about 5 minutes' drive from home and has many interesting features. So, as we move into Spring, we've decided to explore it more thoroughly.

For our first day out we started with lunch at The Royal in Silverdale village which has a really good vegetarian menu. Then we spent a couple of hours at the RSPB's reserve at Leighton Moss. On the edge of Morecambe Bay, it is a unique area of wetlands with reed beds, birds - including many not seen elsewhere, otters and red deer.

We're not 'twitchers' but Leighton Moss is a lovely place to wander and enjoy the peace and tranquility, listening to the birds chattering away to each other and spotting them as they dart from place to place.

A very relaxing afternoon and I'm sure we'll return to Leighton Moss to enjoy the changing scenery and different visiting birds.
