Kenilworth Castle

On our way back from Stratford-upon-Avon we made a small detour to visit Kenilworth Castle. The weather was fine and unseasonably warm - 26 degrees in April - and we enjoyed wandering around the ruins.

The oldest part of the castle was built in the 1120s but more buildings were added over several centuries. The resulting hotchpotch is an instant visual guide to the design of fortified buildings from mediaeval to Tudor times, all within a lovely landscaped area and including re-creations of the Elizabethan gardens.

Kenilworth: a truly great castle.
