Hardwicke Rawnsley's Book of Bristol Sonnets

After our recent trip to the West Country I discovered that Wordsworth wasn't the only poet to write about Tintern Abbey, Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley, in his Book of Bristol Sonnets, composed a sonnet about Tintern Abbey.

We also visited Chepstow Castle and I was unaware that Rawnsley had written a sonnet about the castle.

Rawnsley wasn't very original in his sonnet titles but the sonnets themselves are beautiful and highly descriptive. Discovering these sonnets has added piquancy and pleasure to our trip to Chepstow and Tintern. Loving Rawnsley's poetry as I do, and knowing that he visited these same places and shared many of the same feelings and emotions, is very exciting.
