York Book Fair

Last weekend we had a very enjoyable couple of days in York, with a trip to the PBFA Book Fair. This is held at the York Racecourse, and is always a very large affair, with over 120 dealers from all over the country.

The Fair offers a rich and delicious variety of choice for anyone interested in books. Thousands of second-hand, antiquarian and rare items are on offer from all areas of fiction and non-fiction. For us, it was truly an Aladdin's Cave of delights!

Many of our bookseller friends exhibit at the Fair, so it's also a great chance to catch up, as well as viewing new stock!

This year we were very pleased with our haul of books which included an extremely rare William Gilpin Tour. Gilpin's Western Tour covers the West Country, journeying to Wells, Salisbury and then off to Barnstaple and Bodmin. A pretty wild area in the Eighteenth century, I think. It's a stunning copy, in a beautiful and clean binding.

I was delighted to discover a bookseller with a stall full of Macmillan Crime and purchased Sara Woods' novel Put Out the Light - theatricals, crime and Restoration Comedy, what's not to like!

We had a smashing day and our faith in book fairs has been restored.
