A Woodburner in the Autumn

Since we moved house there has been one thing that we've missed each winter: a woodburner. Instead, our new house was fitted with a gas-fuelled stove with simulated pieces of 'coal'. It wasn't very authentic and - more to the point - threw out very little heat.

Back in the summer, during lockdown, we decided it was time to replace it and as soon as retailers were open again we chose a model which would suit our fireplace, which is fairly large.

The Stovax Stockton 5 Wide was delivered and fitted a couple of weeks ago, just in time for a snap of cold weather and now, as we enjoy the additional heat, the house fills with the evocative smell of wood smoke. And thanks to the latest environmental regulations the wood we buy is guaranteed to be very dry and produces a pleasing crackle rather than a sputtering hiss.
