The Colours of Autumn

This year's autumn has been very slow. Now at the end of October, most trees still have most of their leaves on. This has led to some beautiful shades as leaves and other vegetation slowly die back and change colour.

There are also plenty of other colours this damp autumn, with moss and lichen giving us various shades from bright green to muted grey.

This time in 2020 we weren't really able to enjoy our usual autumn in the Lake District. Are this year's colours especially notable? Perhaps they are. But perhaps we're just appreciating them even more than usual because of the events of the past 18 months.
