Eden Grove and Richard Carruthers

Some friends booked a holiday cottage near Carlisle and invited us up to stay. The "cottage" was in Crosby-in-Eden and wasn't quite what we were expecting!

It transpires that Eden Grove is a stunning Grade 2 listed property which once belonged to Richard Carruthers. Carruthers was commissioned, in 1817, to paint William Wordsworth's portrait.

This famous portrait is now in the ownership of the Wordsworth Trust.

We were totally blown away by the house and its wonderful literary connection.

In addition to the joy of the Wordsworth link, we were able to walk through the grounds to explore part of Hadrian's Wall.

All in all, a fantastic night spent in excellent company and with some totally unexpected additions!
