Sneaton Castle, Whitby

As we've been planning to visit Whitby for quite a long time, we were delighted to discover Sneaton Castle Hotel, just outside the town.

Sneaton Castle was built in the mid Nineteenth Century, and until recently was a convent for the Sisters of the Order of the Holy Paraclete. The Sisters moved out into a purpose built convent across the fields, leaving the Castle to become a perfect hotel and restaurant.

We were totally blown away by the Castle, which retains many of the religious artefacts, icons and paintings from its time as a convent. Our bedroom, which was the former Oratory of Our Lady, had a fresco painted on the arch, which separated the bedroom from the sitting room.

What a fabulous place from which to explore Whitby and the surrounding area.
