Little Women

We were really pleased that Hotbuckle Productions were back at the Heron Theatre, in Beetham, with a new production of Little Women. We have really enjoyed this group's previous productions, and they work so well in an intimate setting like the Heron Theatre.

The acting was as excellent as ever, three actors playing all the parts was quite challenging and they were as inventive as before.

Louisa M Alcott's Little Women is one of the most iconic American novels ever written, and a novel I have enjoyed for as long as I can remember. I think you needed an intimitate understanding of the novel, characters and plot to follow the play.

The March sister’s journey from adolescence to adulthood is navigated through multi-role playing characterisation and imaginative staging as Hotbuckle explore family, love, and the challenges of growing up.

I enjoyed the production, but not as much as previous Hotbuckle productions. I felt that it lacked emotional depth, and many of the features that make the novel so enjoyable and engaging were skimmed over.

A good evening's entertainment but not, I felt, up to Hotbuckle's usual standard.
