We had the most wonderful afternoon watching Opera Della Luna's performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado, at the Lowry.
I love The Mikado, it's so funny and the music is gorgeous. Opera Della Luna's perfomance was sparkling and witty. The singing, acting and dancing were all amazing. Standout performances for me were Ko Ko, Yum Yum and Nanki Poo, but all the actors were fabulous. The costumes were particularly colourful and unusual, I loved the opening scene in a tailors' workshop. So creative and unusual.
I've seen The Mikado dozens of times, and it's difficult to imagine that there is something new to find, but Opera Della Luna managed this. The production was fresh, inventive and fun.
What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
