Graham Caskie and Thomas Carroll at Yewfield, Hawkshead

On Sunday evening we enjoyed another concert and dinner evening at Yewfield near Hawkshead. This time the performers were Thomas Carroll on the cello and Graham Caskie on the piano.

The programme included Bach's Saraband from Suite Number 1 in G, Brahms' Cello Sonata Number 2 in F, Rachmaninoff's Prelude Number 4 in D and finally Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonato in G Minor.

The music was amazing. The words that came to me were: soaring, majestic, glorious and mellifluous. Graham Caskie's piano playing was stunning and I have never heard live cello playing like Thomas Carroll's. We both agreed afterwards that the way Carroll plucked the strings during the Rachmaninoff Sonata was beautiful and totally unexpected.

The food was delicious, as usual, and the setting on a summer's evening was absolutely lovely.
