Apples at Acorn Bank

We wanted a quiet day yesterday, so lunch in Morland and a stroll round Acorn Bank, in Temple Sowerby, seemed like the perfect idea.

Acorn Bank is celebrating apples of all kinds - they grow 175 varieties in the garden, and there are apples in abundance, both on the trees and in baskets to take home.

The trees were weighed down with apples and pears, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the trees so heavily fruited. Inevitably I thought of John Keats poem To Autumn:

To bend with apples the moss’d cottage trees

And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core

A beautiful day, with presage of the Autumn to come.
