There’s something about the look and feel of a place which gives you clues about where you are. The architecture, the plants that grow, the way people dress are just a few examples. As places become more and more alike, and new houses look like they have all been built from the same identikit designs, it’s good to look for the distinctiveness of older buildings. The little details - the roof tiles, the type of brick, the shape of windows - can often be as telling as the overall design. Our brains are very good at spotting these sort of details.
