On Friday, after a quiet lunch at Levens Hall, we decided to visit Arnside. We were keen to pop into the Pier Gallery to have a look at Steve Threlfall's local paintings. We've bought three Kirkby Lonsdale paintings previously, and are keen to have a couple of Arnside/Sandside paintings. I am particularly interested in paintings of the view of the estuary and hills from Sandside.
Arnside was looking especially beautiful on Friday, and the weather was perfect for a stroll and sitting on the pier watching the tide come in. I have loved Arnside since we first visited in the late 1970s and moved to nearby Sandside a few years later. The sunsets are just amazing and I was delighted to purchase a Threlfall painting of the sunset at Arnside.

Strangely, today the Westmorland Gazette ran an article about "the 17 most ridiculously beautiful little seaside villages in the UK" and Arnside was there. Of Arnside the article said "....a village and civil parish in ...Cumbria....offers an incredible diverse landscape and wonderful walking trails". Last month the Times said "the magnificent vistas along the wooded shore of the Kent estuary is one of the best estuary views - an ever changing spectacle of glowing sand, sparkling water and wonderful wildlife".
I couldn't agree more!
