This gorgeous illustration by Edith Holden really appealed to me. There are Rowan berries everywhere this August and they are incredibly beautiful, adding colour and a sense of abundance to the trees.
The Rowan Tree always makes me think of Carolina Olpihant's poem:
Oh! Rowan Tree, Oh! Rowan Tree, thou'lt aye be dear to me,
Intwin'd thou art wi' mony ties o' hame and infancy.
Thy leaves were aye the first o' spring, thy flow'rs the simmer's pride;
There was nae sic a bonny tree, in a' the countrie side.

Carolina Olpiphant (Lady Nairne) was a contemporary of Robert Burns and Walter Scott, and her work shares some thematic similarities with their focus on Scottish identity and folklore. However, Lady Nairne's voice stands apart with its distinct combination of wit, tenderness, and strong sense of place, making her work enduringly relevant for its insights into the human condition and its celebration of Scottish heritage.
