The Goosebumps of Delight

On Saturday we enjoyed The Goosebumps of Delight  at the Staveley Roundhouse. Gavin Robertson gave a wonderful performance of two of Charles Dickens ghost stories: The Baron Grogzwig and The Goblins Who Stole A Sexton.

The Baron Grogwig is a fanciful tale told by Brooker in Dickens' novel Nicholas Nickleby. Brooker is a former clerk of Ralph Nickleby who tells the tale during a gathering at the Kenwigs' house, an event that takes place after Nicholas and Smike have been lodged there by Newman Noggs.

The Goblins Who Stole A Sexton is a short story that was actually the inspiration for A Christmas Carol. In this story, a gravedigger who hates Christmas, gets kidnapped by goblins while digging a grave and then they help him get into the Christmas spirit.

Both stories were brilliant and really well told. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent performance.

We have really started to enjoy one man shows and storytellers over the last few years, and this performance was a new addition to our repertoire. We'll be looking out for more performances by Gavin Roberston and his Goosebumps of Delight.
