We've been "mixing up" what we do during the Christmas period and this year we decided to have a couple of days in Edinburgh. We were so lucky with the weather, it was cold and dry.
We stayed in another Hotel Indigo, close to all our favourite parts of Edinburgh especially Toppings Bookshop. Hotel Indigo has been a real find this year. Our hotel in Edinburgh was theatrically themed as it is very close to the Edinburgh Playhouse. It is also next door to the beautiful St Mary's Catholic Cathedral, to which we, of course, had a quick visit. The Cathedral dates from the early 19th Century, but today is close to shopping centres, trams and busy city centre life.
We were particularly impressed by the paintings, frescoes and the proscenium arch.
The main focus of our visit was Toppings, to stock up on essential Christmas reading!
We did mooch around a few shops and enjoy the festive atmosphere. I think we might have established a new Christmas tradition.
