The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady - December

This year I have really enjoyed both Edith Holden's Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady and Nature Notes of an Edwardian Lady.

I have both of these books from when hey were published in the 1980s, but I have discovered the recently republished editions by Rizzoli Universe. These editions are gorgeous and have reignited my love of the Diary and Notes. In a year when I have started enjoying Commonplace books, inspired by Miranda Mills, having Edith Holden's books to gloat over has been very pleasurable.

There are so many beautiful pictures and quotes for the month of December, but as we are having a very wet and windy time, I felt Tennyson's words from In Memoriam are particularly appropriate:

Tonight the winds begin to rise
And roar from yonder dripping day
The last red leaf is whirled away
The rooks are blown across the skies.
