Carlisle Cathedral

I always enjoy a visit to Carlisle Cathedral, it’s small and beautifully formed, with so many delightful features. The ceiling is stunning. I also love all the memorials to famous Cumbrian poets including Norman Nicholson and Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley.

On today’s visit I spotted a memorial tablet to Robert Anderson, the 'Cumberland Bard'. The name was familiar, so I did a bit of research and discovered the link with Robert Burns. Anderson was particularly influenced by Burns' poetry. This seemed especially pertinent as tomorrow is Burns’ Night.
