Wolf Moon

Last night’s full moon was also a ‘Supermoon’, so-called because the Moon is at its closest as it orbits the Earth, appearing larger than normal, especially when it is close to the horizon.

January’s full moon is also called the Wolf Moon, probably because wolves would howl at the Moon more in January because they were especially hungry.

The next Supermoon isn’t until November so I’m glad that the skies were clear and I managed to capture it twice: at 4.30pm on Friday as it was rising; and at 8.35am on Saturday, just as it was setting.
