Manchester Baroque

Last weekend was our wedding anniversary, so we decided a few treats were in order! I had booked tickets for Manchester Baroque's first concert of 2026, so an early evening meal in Richmond Tea Rooms seemed like an excellent idea. As we were in Manchester I enjoyed a visit to the Mulberry store and, of course, an anniversary purchase! Finally, we mooched around Waterstone's and bought a few books. All in all a very enjoyable celebratory day.

The concert, at the Hallé St Peter's venue in Ancoats, was entitled Celebration and brought together music by Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, Telemann and Vivaldi, with soprano Jane Burnell and trumpet Robert Vanryne, alongside Manchester Baroque on period instruments.

What a superb concert. We enjoyed an uplifting selection of vocal and instrumental works. Soprano Jane Burnell made a welcome return, singing Bach’s Cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen alongside vocal music by Handel and Scarlatti. Instrumental music included Telemann’s Concerto for 3 Violins and Vivaldi’s boisterous Concerto alla Rustica.

A very enjoyable day of anniversary treats!
