Snow and Snowdrops

Early February is behaving true to form. We are having some mild days which feel almost springlike and then, just when we're lulled into thinking that winter is almost over, we have a fall of snow just like we've had today.

As we drove to meet up with friends this afternoon, we enjoyed the covering of snow on Ingleborough. In their garden, however, we spotted early blossom, snowdrops and daffodils.

I have been reading Elizabeth Goudge's wonderful novels recently and very much enjoyed this passage from A City of Bells:

"It was quite dark and a soft wind was blowing, a friendly buffeting wind that slapped you on the back in a cheery way, assuring you that winter was over and spring was on the way at last. Jocelyn could almost fancy that the smell of flowers was in the wind and...he could think he was walking down the tunnel of winter and coming nearer and nearer to the green light of spring beyond."

Spring is certainly in the air although winter still has us in its grip.
