The Pixels at Yewfield

Last Sunday was the first concert of 2026 at Yewfield Vegetarian Guesthouse, near Hawkshead. We were a bit concerned that we wouldn't be able to get there due to a heavy fall of snow, but by late afternoon this had turned to hail and then rain. So all was good although extremely cold.

Having discovered the concerts at Yewfield last year, we have been to quite a few, so we’re very pleased that the 2026 season has started. We thoroughly enjoy the format - music with a vegetarian meal. We have the first course and then music, followed by the pudding, and then more music. So civilised and enjoyable.

Sunday’s concert was given by The Pixels, a group of chamber musicians. On this occasion they comprised piano, violin and cello. The programme included:

Ludwig van Beethoven – Sonata in C, op 102 no 1 for cello and piano
Rebecca Clarke – Piano Trio
Rebecca Clarke – Midsummer Moon, for violin and piano
Ludwig van Beethoven – Piano Trio in E flat, op 1 no 1 

A very interesting mix of music. The Beethoven was familiar and as gorgeous as always. We had never heard any of Rebecca Clarke’s music before. She was a late Victorian composer and violist. We will seek out more of her music, I think.

A really relaxing evening of good food and great music, all in a wonderful setting. We're already looking forward to the next concert!
