So all the new speakers have arrived, been tested, been auditioned (thank you Amazon for the 30 day audition period), and commissioned.
We now have music in 7 rooms, with the choice of all rooms playing synchronised music, or each room playing different music. This is achieved by:
- Our music collection, mostly ripped CDs, is stored on a central Synology NAS
- MinimServer (a DLNA server) runs on the NAS and serves the music tracks to the network
- The Wiim app connects Wiim devices to MinimServer, receives the digital music and either converts it to analogue (to be played on speakers) or passes the digital signal to speakers which carry out the conversion themselves
- In some rooms we have a Wiim Mini which is connected to third party powered speakers
- In other rooms we have an all-in-one Wiim speaker
They all look great, as well as sounding really good. We're both now far more engaged in our music listening and are re-discovering albums we had forgotten about. Everything just sounds more detailed.
