People sometimes distinguish between going out, and going out out. Today was our first day out out this year, thanks to the longer days and some beautiful spring weather. We decided on one of our favourites: St Boswells in the Scottish Borders.
The drive is absolutely gorgeous - hardly any vehicles on the roads and stunning views. And not a pot hole in sight!
St Boswells is an interesting little town and there are plenty of interesting places nearby: the ruined Dryburgh Abbey; Abbotsford, Sir Walter Scott’s home; Floors Castle, a 17th century house and garden; and plenty of other castles and abbeys within reach.
We enjoyed the little shops in St Boswells - including the excellent bookshop, of course - and dropped into Floors Castle. Although it’s not fully open in March, we saw enough to decide to return later in the year to check out the house and the amazing garden.
We were almost home before it went dark so almost all of the year’s first day out out was in the daylight. And next week the clocks go forward…
And on the final part of the journey we were treated to a waxing crescent Moon.
