What to Look For in Summer

It’s definitely Summer now, so time to get out my Ladybird What to Look For in Summer. I absolutely love these little books, so nostalgic and packed with beautiful Tunnicliffe illustrations.

The book opens with the following words which describe the early months of Summer so well.

"June is the month when the meadows are full of flowers and blossoming grasses. Hedge-parsley and chervil are both in flower, together with many others of their kind that bear sprays in the shape of upside down umbrellas. They are sweet scented in leaf and blossom."

This lovely little books takes us through the Summer months. Ladybird writers were not afraid to deal with some of the harsher realities of the natural world. In this book the life of pond life is explored. "Life in a pond is an adventure of eating or being eaten"!!
