On a quiet Saturday when we didn’t fancy going too far, we decided on a ‘local’ day.
A little further down the lake we had a great vantage point and watched a speedboat power its way past Belle Isle.
We started with a visit to St James’s church in Burton-in-Kendal. With a 12th century tower and a Norman arch, this is an ancient church which also houses some 10th century cross fragments.
Lunch was at Lindeth Howe, overlooking Windermere, and the gardens are looking gorgeous, despite the long dry spell.
On our way home we called in to Halecat, home of the friendly Abi and Tom’s Garden Plants, set within the gentle estate at Witherslack. A couple of new plants were taken home to be planted - as soon as the ground is wet enough to receive them!
And finally, as we reached home, we were treated to a glorious sunset.
All in all, a very memorable day.
