I love exploring Scottish lochs and, on this recent trip to the Borders we found time to explore both St Mary's Loch and Haining Loch. They are both really beautiful examples of lochs and we enjoyed walking round them very much.
I found myself thinking of lochs that play an important role in a novel. The first examples that came to mind were all from children's books including Angela Brazil's The School on the Loch and Frances Cowen's The Secret of the Loch. The next couple of books with books as an important feature are Patricia Leitch's The Black Loch and J M Downie's The Secret of the Loch. I'm sure there are lots more books featuring a loch as a key element, I'll have to start hunting through the bookshelves.
