After months of anticipation and excitement, Topping's Bookshop has finally opened in York. Located close to the Minster, this will now be the largest independent bookshop in the UK. Amazing! and it's in York!
We've been planning to visit for a few weeks, but our recent trip to France caused a delay. On Saturday we decided the time had come for our first visit.
We definitely weren't disappointed. The bookshop is in a gorgeous building, the former Poor Law Union Headquarters, with three floors of books of all descriptions. There is an excellent Natural History section, History and Poetry. There are lots of Mystery and Crime novels, and a brilliant paperback fiction department. We spent a very happy couple of hours browsing and left with a lovely selection of books.
We also discovered Avocado Envy across the road from Topping's This will definitely become our go to café for refreshments on book buying trips. Topping's also serves coffee and tea with tables in windows overlooking the Minster. On this occasion the bookshop was very crowded so we didn't attempt to find a table, but next time we definitely will.
We are so delighted to have such a large bookshop in York, it will make our regular visits even more pleasurable.
