Today there was a solar eclipse across the UK, the first since 1999. This was a more-or-less total eclipse, with coverage between 90 and 96%. The next total eclipse in the UK won’t be until 2090.
In the event there was quite a lot of wispy cloud so our experience wasn’t perfect but we did see some interesting shapes in the sky. And at the point of maximum coverage the light became dimmer and eerie: birds became a bit confused, thinking it was time to roost.
