Woman to Woman

After visiting Chetham's Music School in April we noticed a forthcoming event which we couldn't resist. A special concert at the Stoller Hall starring three of our favourite female singers, accompanied by the Chetham's String Orchestra.

Last Saturday the date finally arrived and we set off to enjoy and evening of Judie Tzuke, Beverley Craven and Julia Fordham. All three rose to fame as solo artists in the 80s and 90s with their own distinct styles and for this concert they complemented eachother perfectly. Strong performances of their individual hits were interspersed with anecdotes, while videos and photos were projected onto a large screen behind the performers.

For some songs, the screen showed the original 1990s music video while the artist played live for us - perfectly synchronised, presumably with the help of some clever technology. The effect was excellent while being slightly surreal for the audience and presumably doubly so for the artists.

The evening ended with a collective perfomance from their new album, Woman to Woman and after an encore the audience was left standing for a final song.

All in all an evening that enthralled the audience from start to finish. They're back in the north west next summer: maybe we'll go for a repeat performace.
